The Los Cabos International Film Festival is a prominent cinematic event held annually in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Established in 2012, the festival aims to bridge the film industries of Mexico, the United States, and Canada, fostering cultural exchange and showcasing a diverse array of films.
2024 Edition:
After a hiatus in 2023 due to budget constraints, the festival returns with renewed vigor from December 4 to 8, 2024. This year’s edition, titled «Encuentros de Cine» (Cinema Encounters), expands its venues to include San José del Cabo, featuring screenings and activities in unique locations such as Crania, the Wirikuta Botanical Park, Hotel El Ganzo, Casa Ballena, and Plaza Mijares. The traditional venue at Cinemex Puerto Paraíso in Cabo San Lucas will also continue to host events.
Program Highlights:
-
Mexican Cinema Focus: The 2024 program emphasizes Mexican cinema, presenting a vibrant selection of national titles that have garnered acclaim at international festivals.
-
International Premieres: The festival will feature the Mexican premieres of two international films during its opening and closing events, set against the backdrop of Los Cabos’ stunning natural landscapes.
Artistic Representation:
The festival’s poster, created by local filmmaker David Liles and produced by Hugo Payén, draws inspiration from the estuary of San José del Cabo. It depicts two children fishing in front of a film screen rising like the sun among palm trees, symbolizing the fusion of local culture and cinema.
Historical Context:
Over the years, the Los Cabos International Film Festival has attracted notable filmmakers, actors, and industry professionals from North America and beyond. Past editions have honored distinguished guests such as Nicole Kidman, who received the Outstanding Work in Cinema tribute award in 2018.
